The Yangtze River Three Gorges No. 1, which entered service in March 2022, is the world’s largest pure electric cruise ship with the largest battery capacity, the most passenger seats, and the highest level of intelligence. Measuring 100 meters in length and 16.3 meters in beam, the vessel accommodates 1,300 passengers. Powered entirely by CATL‘s high-safety LFP marine battery system with a total capacity of 7,500 kWh, the vessel achieves true zero‑emission, ultra‑low‑noise operation. The battery system, consisting of more than 10,000 CATL LFP cells, is equipped with cell‑level temperature sensors and four separate battery compartments with a backup system, ensuring reliable safety. The vessel also employs the world’s first “high‑voltage charging + low‑voltage replenishment” solution, significantly reducing port charging time. Powered by clean hydroelectricity from the Three Gorges Dam, it saves 530 tons of fuel and reduces harmful emissions by 1,660 tons annually. As a national pilot project listed under both the MIIT High‑Tech Ship Research Program and the MOT Transport Power Pilot Program, the Three Gorges No. 1 serves as a flagship demonstration of the strategic “Electrify the Yangtze” initiative, setting a benchmark for the global electrification of inland waterway passenger vessels.
